Alan P. Jones, Jr., 85, of Fort Atkinson, died on Thursday, Oct. 14, 2010.
He was born on Feb. 27, 1925, to Eleanor and Alan P. Jones. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, in the European Theater of Operations from 1943-1945, attaining the rank of Private First Class. Alan received a Bronze Star Medal, the second highest decoration for infantry.
After the war, he attended college, graduating cum laude with an A.B. from Harvard College in 1948. He continued his education, receiving an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School in 1950.
Alan returned to Fort Atkinson in 1950 and worked at Jones Dairy Farm for over 55 years, and also at Uncle Josh Bait Company for over 25 years. He served as a director on many boards, including: Johnson Bank, Dwight Foster Public Library, PDQ Corporation, Wisconsin Governor's Advisory Committee on International Trade, Wisconsin International Trade Council, Wisconsin Citizens Environmental Council, Wisconsin Radioactive Waste Policy Council, and Wisconsin Nature Conservancy.
Alan was an avid duck hunter, fisherman, downhill skier, a member of many environmental protection organizations, and he always had a thirst for knowledge of history.
Alan married Jean Drummond on Sept. 12, 1953. They have four children, Richard (Barbara) Jones, Sue (Dennis) McComb, Wendy (Hans) Weber and Sandy (Charlie Leonard) Jones.
In addition to his wife and their children, he also is survived by four grandchildren, Elizabeth and Peter Jones, and McClain and Kirsten Weber; and one brother, Milo.
Alan was preceded in death by one brother, William.
There will be a visitation at 10 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 18, at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 302 Merchants Ave. in Fort Atkinson, with the funeral to follow at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hoard Historical Museum or the Dwight Foster Public Library.
