Amaya Lowrey Obituary

Amaya Moon Lowrey, age 9, passed away Sunday, June 7th at American Family Children’s Hospital in Madison after a courageous battle with Rett Syndrome.

From day one, Amaya brought so much joy into the lives of those who knew her. She had an attitude that rivaled that of a teenager, often being described by Mom as “spicy.” She didn’t hesitate to let you know that she disapproved of something by dishing out the most wicked side eye or simply ignoring whatever had offended her. If you injured yourself in any way, Amaya laughed hysterically. She was the best listener, snuggler and friend. She was also a warrior, fighting Rett Syndrome until her body wouldn’t let her.

Amaya loved walks with her mom, her family, school, snuggling and shopping. Music time before bed with Dad was a must every night, and she would insist on staying up until Mom came home from work. She also loved animals, especially her dog, Harmony and her “deer friends” that live in the wetlands by Luther.

Amaya is missed by her parents, Tyler and Kara; brother, Dominic; her grandparents, Geoffrey, and Joan Smith, Dennis Lowrey, uncle Ian Smith and many close family friends. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandmother, Laurie Menge.

Amaya always did things on her own terms, and her passing was no different-she left us with one final laugh by passing on 6-7. She loved those fads.

The family would like to thank the outstanding staff at American Family Children’s Hospital in Madison for their amazing care.

Amaya, we love you forever. Thank you for the lessons. You are our hero.
