Ann Dexheimer Weiss born August 14, 1928. Passed away peacefully on April 6, 2026
Ann (Onnie) grew up on a farm on Edgewater Road with her older sister Mary and lived in Fort her whole life. She graduated from Fort Atkinson High School in 1946. She attended Beloit College for two years before marrying Jim Weiss, her sweetheart since elementary school.
After Jim returned from the army the couple lived in Madison while Jim attended the University of Wisconsin.
After completing his studies and the birth of their first daughter, they moved back to Fort and built the “house on the hill”.
Jim ran the family farm while Onnie dedicated her time to raising three children and volunteering for numerous organizations: church treasurer for decades, Girl Scout leader, Koshkonong Mounds board member (only woman on the board at that time), United Way Fund Raiser, Hoard Museum Board, Dwight Foster library volunteer, food pantry, Hoard Museum greeter. She was always the one people could count on to help behind the scenes. She and Jim always wanted what was best for Fort Atkinson and were willing to help make that happen.
In her free time Onnie enjoyed golf (former ladies club champion), travel and time at their Clear Lake cottage. She was an avid bridge player and attended Tuesday Club. However, time with family was always a priority.
Onnie made people happy. It was her smile, thoughtful listening, silliness, and positive attitude that attracted people to her.
Her family is blessed with so many wonderful memories. We were fortunate to have her with us for so long. She will be missed.
Onnie is survived by three children Sandy (David) Street, Nancy (Russell) Putnam and James (Robin) Weiss; grandchildren Elizabeth (Brian) Dillon, Jeffrey Street, and Carly (Mike) Johnson; step-grandchild Andy Putnam; and great-grandchildren Anna, James and Daniel Dillon and Clifford Johnson.
Onnie is preceded in death by her husband Jim Weiss, sister Mary Gates and grandson Christopher Street.
Thank you for having Onnie in your thoughts and prayers. The family thanks the aides at Reena Senior Living for their kind, sincere care and Rainbow Hospice for leading the family through this end of life journey.
Memorials can be made to Hoard Historical Museum, Rainbow Hospice or a charity of your choice.
There will be a private family memorial service at a later date.
