August J. Augie Lehmann, 78, Fort Atkinson, died on Sunday, March 4, 2012, at the Fort Memorial Hospital.

He was born on November 18, 1933 in Fort Atkinson, a son of the late August and Frieda (Gshwandtner) Lehmann.

Augie married Joyce Weckler of Fort Atkinson on June 22, 1957.

He was a graduate of the Fort Atkinson High School, class of 1951. Following high school, he entered the Navy, serving during the Korean War.

Augie worked for Kimary Homes, Janesville, and with Pessin Associates, Janesville following his honorable discharge from the Navy. He then became a self-employed carpenter/contractor from 1972-2000 when he semi-retired.

Augie was involved in many activities, including Habitat for Humanity, 4H woodworking leader for 10 years and elected positions to include, County Board Supervisor for District 25 for 18 years and Koshkonong Town Board Supervisor.
He was active in all aspects of the American Legion Post #166 and was a long time member of the honor guard.
Augie had served as the Jefferson County Veterans Council President for many years, a position that he just recently left.
At the time of his death he was involved in flags for first graders in Fort Atkinson, Chairman of the Badger Boys State Committee, Chairman of the Fort Atkinson Memorial Day parade, Jefferson County Veterans Council Treasurer, 40/8 Commissaire Intendant and Sous Correspondent. He also held other offices to include, Voiture Aumonier, Caraville Star Directuer, and Nurses Training Directeur with the 40/8 in his years as an active member. He was elected V750 Voyageur in 2005.

He began to collect harmonicas in earnest upon semi-retirement, having received his first harmonica when his son was small (1967) from Dr. Vogner. He has collected 250 harmonicas of all types, sizes and ages. He has performed numerous shows to include: the Hoard Museum, schools and retirement homes. He also had on-air presentations at the local radio station, taking his grandson with him to play. He had taught all of his grandchildren to play the harmonica.

Augie had been highlighted in multiple newspapers across the state. He took his harmonicas with him wherever he went, eliciting spontaneous concerts.
He was a member of the Society for the Advancement and Preservations of Harmonicas and Harmonica Collectors International.

Augie enjoyed making wooden crafts for sale at local farmers markets such as, jewelry boxes, toys, bird houses, articulated camels, wine pourers and bowls.
He enjoyed surfing the internet and was a prolific e-mailer, spreading his opinions and many articles far and wide.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce; one son, Steven (Leanne) Lehmann of Fort Atkinson; one daughter, Lori (Jeremy) Goldman of Seaford, Delaware; five grandchildren, Jenifer Ashcroft, Devin and Logan Lehmann, Justin and Cameron Scroggins; two brothers, John (Marion) of Fort Atkinson, Fred (Karen) of Delavan; two sisters, Lillian (John) Baker and Mary (Ron) Hall both of Fort Atkinson; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Also preceding in death was a nephew, Timothy Weckler, sister-in-law, Barbara London Weckler and a brother-in-law, Andrew Kirchmayer.

A Memorial Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 7, 2012, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Dunlap Memorial Home.
