Bette Castanon, age 87, passed away on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at Wellington Meadows, Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin. She was born on August 24, 1937, in Seguin, Texas to the late Manuel Galvan and Fabiana Tobar Galvan.
Bette was a certified nursing assistant and a dedicated caregiver throughout her career. Bette cared for the elderly at Jefferson’s Countryside Home (now Alden Estates), later, as a direct care staff member, she worked with children and adults with intellectual disabilities at St. Coletta. During her time at St. Coletta, she touched the lives of many residents and their family members. Her most memorable and rewarding experience was caring for Rosemary Kennedy. In retirement, Bette enjoyed being a volunteer at Fort Healthcare, going to the Jefferson County and State Fairs, attending activities at the Fort Senior Center, and her favorite pastime that stood out to family and friends, was her love for dancing. Taking lessons in her 60’s you could find her at many local area dances swinging the night away.
She is preceded in death by her parents, sister Julia Galvan Cevallos, her brothers Santos, Severo, Eusebio, Raymond and Ausencio Galvan.
She is survived by her daughter Mary (David) Wegner, her granddaughters Keia (Alex) Lewis and Kali (Bo) Rada, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bette will have a private, family memorial service at Dunlap Memorial Home, Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin. Interment at a future date will be in Our Lady of Guadalupe Cemetery, Seguin, Texas.
Bette’s family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff at Wellington Meadows for her care and to Rainbow Hospice, especially her care nurse Ann Maria for her compassion. The family would also like to acknowledge Bette’s longtime primary physician, Dr. Shauna Meyer, UW Health, for her exceptional care throughout the years.
