FORT ATKINSON/MCFARLAND - Carl F. Hamilton, age 92, died Sunday, March 27, 2011 surrounded by family at St Marys Hospital in Madison from complications of Parkinsons Disease.
He was born August 24, 1918 in Austin, Minnesota to Ray and Clara (Meyer) Hamilton. He married Margaret Schmidt on May 3, 1946 in Chicago. Carl earned a BS degree in Electrical Engineering from Chicago Technical College where he was class president.
Carl began serving his country when he enlisted in the US Army in 1941. He later attended Engineers Officer Training School and was promoted to Captain in the Signal Corp. Carl was attached to the Royal Air Force for radar training and served on RAF stations on the Isle of Wight and Shetland Islands. He was assigned to the Air Force School of Applied Tactics where the 2nd Radar Calibration unit was formed which calibrated radar sites in North Africa, Italy, Sardinia and Corsica. He served as a Captain in the Air Force Reserve until 1952.
His 35 year career with Creamery Package began in Chicago. Carl was transferred to their Lake Mills branch in 1964 and he retired from Crepaco in 1983. He was a long time, active member of the First Congregational Church in Fort Atkinson. A charter member of Fort Atkinsons volunteer FISH organization, he served as its chairman for 15 years. His hobbies were wood working and photography. He loved spending time in his workshop making furniture and turning wood.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret and two daughters, Carol (Mark) Pflughoeft of McFarland, and Diane (Bill) Bardosy of Appleton; five grandsons, Kyle (Aubrey) Pflughoeft, Kennen Pflughoeft, Greg Bardosy, Stephen Bardosy, Paul Bardosy; and a great-grandson, Crosby Pflughoeft. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Winifred.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, April 1, 2011 at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Fort Atkinson, with Rev. Chris Buckingham-Taylor officiating. Friends may call from 10 a.m. on Friday at the church until time of service.
Burial will follow in Lakeview Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in memory of Carl may be made to the First Congregational Church in Fort Atkinson.
