Cortlyn N. Almquist, 85, of Whitewater, formerly of Fort Atkinson, passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2026.
Cortlyn was born on September 6, 1940, in Fort Dodge, IA son of Nelvin and Agda (Samuelson) Almquist. He married Judy Truelson in Iowa on August 16, 1964.
Cortlyn earned his bachelor’s degree in Dairy Science from Iowa State University and later earned his Ph.D. in Dairy Science from the University of Wisconsin – Madison. After graduating, he was a farm training instructor at MATC in Fort Atkinson and Watertown for more than 20 years.
He was active with the Fort Atkinson FFA Alumni and the Jefferson County Agri-Business Club. He also enjoyed cheering on the Badgers and Brewers, but what he truly loved was following his children and grandchildren around, supporting them in all their activities.
Cortlyn is survived by his loving wife, Judy; children, Jim (Sheri) Almquist and Andrea (John) Schulz; grandchildren, Payton and Sydney Almquist and Janelle and Trevor Schulz; siblings, Doug (Sharon) Almquist, Caryl (Ron) Dirks, Annie (Grant) Stimson, Richard (Karen) Almquist and Eavon (Jerry) Woodin; sisters-in-law, JoAnn (Bob) Bringolf and Kay Kuehn and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, nephews, AJ Almquist and Curt Woodin and brother-in-law, Ron Kuehn.
A memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fort Atkinson. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
Memorials may be made for an Ag Scholarship to be established in Cortlyn’s name or Trinity Lutheran Church.
The family would like to thank the staff at Fairhaven in Whitewater for their excellent care of Cortlyn.
