Diane Glabe Abendroth, 84, was called to heaven on May 15, 2026. Born in Chicago, Illinois on May 5, 1942, Diane grew up surrounded by the love of her parents, John Arnold and Florence Heuvelman and her brother, John Arnold “Jack” Heuvelman III of Tucson, Arizona, all of whom preceded her in death.
Diane’s life blossomed in a new direction when she married Curtis Owen Abendroth on June 6, 1964. Shortly after their marriage, they moved to Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin, where they built a home, raised their family, and worked side by side in the family business. Diane earned her associate degree from Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois, in 1961, and later completed her bachelor’s degree in business at UW–Whitewater in 1993. She began her career as a legal secretary before joining Curtis as the second generation of Abendroth Water Conditioning, where she worked part-time for 30 years before retiring.
Her passions were simple and heartfelt. Diane enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, attending their concerts, sporting events, and activities, and cheering them on in every season of their lives. She enjoyed playing golf, playing cards, and reading. Diane and Curtis also shared a love of travel and adventure, exploring the world together and creating cherished memories wherever they went. Some of Diane’s happiest moments were when she and her husband went RVing, often with close friends or her grandchildren, making lifelong memories.
Diane was also deeply committed to her community. She volunteered at the Hoard Historical Museum and at the First United Methodist Church. She cherished her involvement in her Bible study group, card clubs, Jaycettes, Tuesday Club, book clubs, and Women Who Care. She looked forward to her exercise class and treasured her daily walks with her dear friend Betty Covey, a ritual they shared faithfully for 38 years.
Above all, Diane will be remembered for the way she lived her faith. She was incredibly kind, positive, thoughtful and welcoming. She radiated joy and her laughter could fill a room. Diane was always ready to lend a helping hand and her faith was reflected not in words alone but in the warm and generous way she treated others. She leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and a quiet strength that will continue to shine through the many lives she touched.
Diane’s greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her children, Brian (Suzanne) Abendroth of Waunakee, WI, and Linda (Vincent) Kent of Fort Atkinson, WI. She was a proud and devoted grandmother to Alexis (John) O’Leary, Mason Kent, Connor (Diana) Abendroth, Max Abendroth, Jenna Abendroth, and Aaron Abendroth, each of whom brought her immeasurable happiness.
Memorial gifts may be made to First United Methodist Church, the Hoard Historical Museum, or the Fort Atkinson Library.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 19, 2026, at First United Methodist Church in Fort Atkinson from 1:00–4:00 p.m., with the funeral service at 4:00 p.m. Burial will take place immediately following the service at Evergreen Cemetery in Fort Atkinson.
