Diane M. Statz

Diane M. Statz, 89, of Johnson Creek, formerly of Fort Atkinson, passed away on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison.

Diane was born on May 11, 1937, in Rhinelander, WI daughter of the late Paul and Vina (Plankey) Cook. She married David Statz on March 29, 1985. He preceded her in death on April 27, 2009.

Diane spent many years working at Wisconsin Natural Gas. Outside of work, Diane embraced life with enthusiasm and a sense of adventure. She enjoyed bowling and traveled to state and national tournaments, where she found both excitement and camaraderie. She also enjoyed bingo, crossword puzzles, sudoku, and game shows, always keeping her mind active and her competitive spirit alive. Diane loved to travel and especially enjoyed cruises and visiting islands, where she could take in new sights and create lasting memories. She also found great satisfaction in gardening and canning, and she took pride in making her own wine. She had a special love for animals, especially her dogs, cats, birds, and fish, who brought her comfort and companionship over the years.

Diane was also a devoted fan of Wisconsin sports and never missed a Brewer or Packer game. Family was at the center of her life, and she treasured every opportunity to spend time with those she loved. She hosted many pool parties at her home, creating a welcoming place where family and friends could gather, laugh, and make memories together. She also carried on the family tradition of spending time at Lake Emma in the Northwoods, a place that held special meaning and reflected the importance she placed on togetherness and tradition.

Those who knew Diane will remember her as unselfish, generous, and capable of fixing just about anything. She had a practical nature, a helpful heart, and a willingness to lend a hand whenever it was needed. She lived life fully, and she took great pride in the fact that she checked everything off her bucket list. She did everything she ever wanted, and she did it with determination, joy, and gratitude.

Diane is survived by her children, Lori Gaber, Jeffrey (Rosmery) Gaber, Randy (Maureen) Gaber and Greg (Sandra) Gaber; 12 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and three sisters, Pat Perlberg, Paula Cook and Steph Dalka. Diane was blessed to add to her family when she married David Statz.  She is also survived by his children, David (Sandy) Statz, Peter Statz, Sue Burrow, Judy Statz, Chris Samuels and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 

She was also preceded in death by her son, Bill Gaber and siblings, Dick Cook, Delores Nolechek, Carol Osterman and Judy Martin.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 12:30 PM on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Fort Atkinson. Visitation will be from 11:30 AM at the church until the time of service. Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Jefferson County.
