Elaine Adeline (Retrum) Hish 87 passed away on September 23, 2011 with her family by her side after many years of battling Alzheimers.
Elaine was born on March 10, 1924 to Willis and Alexandrine (Robarge) Retrum in Lima Center, WI and married Jack LeRoy Hish on October 12, 1949 in Whitewater, WI. He preceded her in death on March 23, 2006.
Elaine worked for the Fort Atkinson School district and was known by many students as the Laundry Lady until her retirement in 1986. Elaine also worked for many years at the Fort Atkinson Legion Dugout helping to cater special events as a member of the VFW Womens Auxiliary. In her retirement years, Elaine enjoyed volunteering at the Fort Memorial Hospital helping out in the coffee shop.
In her younger years, Elaine enjoyed playing cards with friends and square dancing with her husband Jack. She also loved to bake and would sell her baked goods at Cattle fair on the square at the Jefferson Court House.
Elaine loved to spend time with family and friends and was known as Ma or Grandma to the many people that loved her and to those who cared for her at the Golden Living facility in Fort Atkinson.
Elaine is survived by her four children: Jalaine (John) Fette of Pierre, South Dakota, LuAnn (Dan) Morrill of Fort Atkinson, Shelly (Kent) Stoner of Fort Atkinson, Brad(Katherine) Hish of Arat, Virginia, eight grandchildren, four step grandchildren and many great grandchildren and step great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Milton (Rose) Hish, sister-in-laws Evelyn Hish, Frances Hish, Hazel Hish all of Illinois and special friends Lee and Lynne Heinz of Fort Atkinson.
She was preceded in death by her three brothers and their wives and her three sisters and their husbands, a nephew and a step granddaughter.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 am on Friday, September 30 at the First Congregational Church of Christ in Fort Atkinson. Burial will be held at the Evergreen Cemetery in Fort Atkinson with a fellowship at the church following the burial service.
Visitation will be held at the Dunlap Memorial Home in Fort Atkinson on Thursday, September 29 from 5 to 7 pm and from 10:30 am at the church on Friday until time of service.
