Frances M. Bermes

Frances Marie Bermes, our beloved mother, grandma and great grandma entered into God’s kingdom on Friday, March 21, 2025 at the age of 105.

Fran was born in Plano, IL on September 12, 1919. In 1940 Fran married Walter Bermes of Naperville, IL. In 1950, Walter (Shorty) and Fran moved to their farm in Whitewater, WI with their two sons, Gary and Bill. She faithfully farmed alongside her husband for more than 27 years. In the early 1960’s Fran started working for UW Whitewater dining halls. She volunteered for many local entities including the Fort Atkinson Hospital and nursing home. In her late 80’s she started working in the kitchen at The Fireside. She finally retired at age 94. She enjoyed her retirement by traveling the world, but her greatest joy was being surrounded by her family.

Fran was preceded in death by her husband Walter (Shorty) Bermes; parents, Anthony and Verna Jonekes, brother Charles and her sister Margaret. Survived by sons Gary (Sheryl) Bermes. Bill (Ethel) Bermes.

Grandchildren; Nicole (Steve) Austin, Tony (Maritza) Bermes, Nellie (Steve) Knox. Great Grandchildren; Cailyn Austin, Emily Austin, Abi Austin, Jacob Bermes, Jayla Bermes, Jordan (Layla) Thompson, Evan Thompson, Lily Thompson, Ella Thompson, Lauren Knox, Ian Knox. And niece Jane Colby.

Visitation will be held at Dunlap Memorial Home in Fort Atkinson on Sunday, March 30th from 1-3pm.

Memorials can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Shriners Children’s Hospital in lieu of flowers or gifts.
