Gary Richard Vail, age 66, of Fort Atkinson, passed away peacefully on April 8, 2026, surrounded by family. He was born on February 5, 1960, in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin.
Gary was a true outdoorsman who found his greatest joy in hunting and fishing, especially during trips up North. He also loved all sports and could always be counted on to cheer passionately for his favorite teams. Gary’s love for the outdoors, his laid-back spirit, and the memories he created with family and friends will never be forgotten.
He is survived by his father, Gerald Vail; his sister, Jill Vail; and his son, Ryan Vail. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, as well as his aunts Donna Doeberiner and Viki Hedden, all of whom loved him dearly.
Gary was preceded in death by his mother, Penny Vail; sister, Connie Rae Vail, his grandmothers, Ardine Clemens, Beulah Vail, and Dorothy Maas; and his grandfathers, Ken Vail and Richard Maas.
Gary will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
A special thank you to Rainbow Hospice and his nieces, Angela Cavazos and Melanie Powell for the loving care and support given to Gary.
