Gilda Jewel Wenzel, 86, passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 23, 2025, at Jefferson Memory Care in Jefferson.
Jewel was born on March 9, 1939, in Philadelphia, PA to Edmund and Gilda Wenzel. She graduated from P.J. Jacobs High School in Stevens Point in 1956 and worked for many years as a data entry operator.
Jewel married Roger Winch Sr. at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Stevens Point on February 23, 1963. They later divorced. She enjoyed feeding and watching birds and planting flowers every summer.
She is survived by her sons, Roger Winch Jr. of Spencer and William (Theresa) of Rapid City, SD and her daughter, Sharon Winch of Lake Mills. She is also survived by her sister, Louise (William) Carr of Madison and other family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother and sister-in-law, Edward and Esther Wenzel; sister, Marie and her ex-husband, Roger Winch Sr.
We would like to thank Cathey Sloane from St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Jefferson for her weekly visits and bringing mom communion which was greatly appreciated. Also thank you to Jefferson Memory Care and St. Croix Hospice for their care and support.
Visitation will be held at 9 a.m. on Thursday, June 26, 2025, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Fort Atkinson. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. with Msgr. Donn Heiar officiating. Burial will follow at St. Stephen’s Cemetery in Stevens Point, WI.
