Henry W. Lemke Jr., 90, Fort Atkinson, passed away suddenly on Friday, November 12, 2010, at his home.
He was born on the family farm in the Town of Koshkonong on October 17, 1920, the son of the late Henry and Alma (Umland) Lemke.
Henry married Marjorie Merriman on February 7, 1942 at St. Pauls Evangelical Lutheran Church in Fort Atkinson. They celebrated 68 years of marriage this year.
He had farmed his entire life. Also, in 1943, Henry began hauling milk for Hawthorne Melody Dairy in Whitewater. He had his own milk route in Jefferson County and the surrounding areas for 53 years until his grandson, Al Jr., took over the route. Henry continued to farm with son Butch until his death. Henry touched many lives through his horse and wagon rides and countless trips through all the local parades with his horses.
He was a life member of St. Pauls Evangelical Lutheran Church and lifetime exhibitor at the Jefferson County Fair. He was also a member of the Rock River Saddle Club, Jefferson County Draft Horse Association, Jefferson County Agri-Business Club, FFA Alumni Association, and the AMPI Milk Co-operative.
Survivors include his wife, Marjorie; children, Allen Butch (Chris) Lemke Sr., Patty (Ron) Klement, Ken Lemke, all of Fort Atkinson; grandchildren, Ron (Deb) Klement, Al (Sherry) Lemke Jr., Sue (Matt) Koning, Janet (Dave) Streich, Jeff (Deb) Lemke, Deanna (Brendan) Lawler, Derek Lemke; brother, Robert C. (Dorothy) Lemke of Helenville; sister-in-law, Mildred Lemke of Fort Atkinson; 13 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Also preceding in death were brothers, Warner, Norman, Harlow; sister and brother-in-law, Pauline and Gerald Augustine; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Harry Nitch (Jenny) Nitschke; and sisters-in-law, Viola Lemke and Lucy Kleitz.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 17, 2010, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church with the Rev. Michael D. Duncan and Rev. Paul A. Scharrer officiating.
Burial will be in the Lakeview Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the church and after 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday until the time of service.
Memorials may be made to St. Pauls Lutheran School.
