Jack Daniel Rumsey, 84, was born into eternal life on Friday, Sept. 17, 2010, at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison.
Jack was born on Dec. 20, 1925, in Lewellen, Neb., to the late Sylvester and Florence Myrtle (Newton) Rumsey; he was one of five children.
Jack took Edith Margaret Johnson of Lewellen, Neb., as his bride on Feb. 14, 1946. They began their family in Lexington, Neb., and had three sons.
Jack is a World War II veteran, and served in both the European and Pacific theatres. Jack served as a Corporal in the U.S. Army's Battery "A" 911th Field Artillery Battalion and received an honorable discharge on March 1, 1946.
He worked for the State of Nebraska Highway Department until his retirement. He and Edith resided in Callaway, Neb., until their move to Fort Atkinson in October 2005. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, golfing and bowling.
Jack is survived by his wife, Edith; sons, Ronald Lee (Pamela) of Fort Atkinson and Daniel (Linda) of Columbus, Neb.; sisters, Dorothy (Ivan) Applegate and Ruth Valadez; granddaughters, Nicohle Rumsey and Melissa Rumsey; numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Robert; brother, Alvin; and sister, Vera Dodson.
The family will conduct a private memorial service in Nebraska in late October.
Arrangements are being handled by the Dunlap Memorial Home.
