Jerry Mason Obituary

Jerry B. Mason of Fort Atkinson, born on July 7, 1931, died on Sunday, April 3, 2011 at Hope Hospice in Bonita Springs, FL.
Jerry was a member of the First Congregational United Church where he had attended services as a child, was confirmed and remained an active member throughout his life. He graduated from Fort Atkinson High School in 1949 and enjoyed basketball and track. He went on to play basketball at Milton College.
Jerry served in the U.S. Army from 1952 54. In 1953 he married Ramona Fullmer and they had two sons, Jeff and Jay. After completing his military service Jerry returned to school attending UW Madison where he graduated with a B.S. in Economics in 1956. Jerry was a member of Kappa Sigma Kappa. After graduation he started working as an insurance agent, first with Massachusetts Mutual and then with State Farm. In 1960, he purchased the Cullendar Agency which then became Mason Insurance.
Jerry served as the state president of the Professional Insurance Association. He was a long time member of the Fort Atkinson Chamber of Commerce and Rotary Club. He also served on the Planning Commission for the City of Fort Atkinson and the Economic Development Commission for Jefferson County. Jerry enjoyed spending time with family and friends, playing cards, hunting, sailing, and travel. He was a great fan of Badger sports and attended many football, basketball and hockey games with friends and family.
He is survived by his wife Ramona; sons, Jeffrey (Joan) Mason of Fort Atkinson and Jay (Kim) Mason of Delafield; grandchildren, Michelle (Jim) Mason Moeller of Waunakee, Benjamin Mason of Fort Atkinson, Alexander Mason of Williston, ND, Paige Mason of Minneapolis, MN, Alyssa Mason and Hunter Mason of Delafield; great grandchildren, John, Claire and Isabella Mason; brother, Tom (Mary Joy) Mason; sister-in-law, Nancy (Dick) Mueller; brother-in-law, Bill (Mary) Fullmer; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents Jeremiah Mason and Ormay Mason Freye.
Memorial services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, April, 9, 2011 at the First Congregational UCC in Fort Atkinson. Friends may call from 10 a.m. on Saturday at the church until time of service.
Burial will take place in Evergreen Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to Rainbow Hospice in Jefferson or to the Mason Farm Unit of Dorothy Carnes Jefferson County Park.
