John J. Haberl passed from this world on January 12, 2025, doing what he loved, fishing. John was born on September 16th, 1936, to Joseph and Anna Haberl in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin. He attended St. Joseph Catholic School and Fort Atkinson High School and then went on to join the US Navy where he served from 1957 to 1961.
After the Navy John became a heavy equipment operator working for PW Ryan, Mann Brothers, and Kennedy Construction. John was a proud member of the Operating Engineers local number 139 for 55 years. After retirement John and Lorraine purchased property on the shores of the Rainbow Flowage near Lake Tomahawk where they enjoyed 20 years of retirement summers with newfound friends, lots of campfires featuring cold beer and a little wine and plenty of fishing.
John’s three favorite pastimes were planning to go fishing, fishing, and talking about fishing. He kept a daily log of how many fish were caught, where they were caught, and what type of bait worked best. John also enjoyed long walks with his favorite dogs, Sammie and Callie.
John is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Lorraine; his two stepdaughters, Karen Perdue (Dan Meyers) and Linda (John) Davis; grandchildren, Lindsi (Matt) Timm, Katie (Nick) Sanborn, Aleena Chohan (nee Rebecca Dorn), and Shauna Lueder and also great grandchildren, Charlie, Andrew, Astoria, Marlowe, Musa, Haroon and Amna. He is also survived by a brother, Jerry Haberl and his wife Rachel and numerous nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Joseph and Anna Gschwandtner, his parents, Joseph and Anna Haberl, a sister and brother-in-law Florence and Dick Bergman, his brother Edward Haberl, a stepson, Rick Lueder, and a step grandson, George “Pat” Perdue.
