John Shanahan Jr. Obituary

John J. Shanahan Jr., 84, Fort Atkinson, died on Saturday, October 22, 2011, at the Alden Estates of Countryside in Jefferson.

He was born on October 24, 1926 in Lansing, Michigan, the son of the late John J. Jr. and Frances (Hatzinger) Shanahan.

John married Bonnie J. Ray on August 4, 1954. She died on July 23, 1998.

He graduated from high school in Chicago.

Jack was a U.S. Army veteran serving during WWII.

He was a boilermaker his entire life and retired in 1991. Jack retired as shop foreman from the Independent Boiler and Tank Co. in Chicago.

Following his retirement, he and his wife moved to Fort Atkinson to be closer to his family.

He was a member of the Boilermakers National Union.

Jack enjoyed being with his family, fishing, building puzzles, and was always good with his hands.

Survivors include his children, Lance (Sharon) of Fort Atkinson, Diane (Michael) LaBombard of Cohose, N.Y., Kathleeen Krause of Jefferson; five grandchildren, Sarah, Katherine, Alexander, Clair, Gabriel, and two great grandchildren.
Also preceding in death was a granddaughter, Maggie Krause.

There will be no formal services.
Friends may call to pay their respects on Thursday, October 27, 2011, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., at the Dunlap Memorial Home.
