Judith Ann Wittenwyler
July 1, 1952 – March 24, 2026
Judith Ann “Judy” Wittenwyler, age 73, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 24, 2026. Judy lived a life marked by quiet faithfulness, dedication, a deep love for family and community, and the many simple joys that filled her days.
Judy was born on July 1, 1952, to Donald and Ruth Wittenwyler. She grew up in Fort Atkinson, WI, where she attended Fort Atkinson High School before continuing her education at the University of Wisconsin–Whitewater. Fort Atkinson remained her lifelong home and the place where she invested deeply in the people and institutions she loved.
Throughout her working years, Judy was employed by Thomas Industries and later at Fort Heating. She also worked at the Shell service station and lovingly cared for several young children, including her nieces and nephew. Judy was a volunteer at the local humane society.
Faith and service were central to Judy’s life. She was a devoted member of First Congregational United Church of Christ in Fort Atkinson. Those she served alongside were friends she considered family. Judy was an active participant in the Senior Choir, Chapel Bell Choir, Peanut Project, Prayer Quilt Ministry, and she contributed her time and energy to various committees. She also worked part time for many years as the church’s financial secretary and clerk.
Judy was also well known at the Dwight Foster Public Library and could be found on the second floor at the puzzle table for several hours almost daily. She also enjoyed talking with the library staff and visitors, reading, and regularly checking out books.
Judy is survived by her brother Ron (Jane) Wittenwyler, and twin brother James (Karla) Wittenwyler, brother-in-law James Helgeson, sister-in-law Deb Wittenwyler, Bev Wittenwyler, and many nieces and nephews: Lynn (Tim) Bales, Holly (Jeremy) Houser; Michelle Wittenwyler, Michael (Chelsea) Wittenwyler, Angela (Jeremy) Barth; Megan (Brian) Beirne, Kate (Mike) McGuire, and Jim (Serra) Wittenwyler. She is also remembered fondly by many great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Judy was preceded in death by her sister, Marion (James) Helgeson, and her parents, Donald and Ruth Wittenwyler.
Her family wishes to extend special thanks to Mary Ellen Miller and Jeanie Piper for their faithful friendship and support to Judy over many years, along with the many friends at church who were such a blessing in her life.
Memorial gifts in Judy’s honor may be directed to Fort Atkinson First Congregational Church – UCC Memorial Fund or Fort Atkinson Dwight Foster Public Library Memorial Fund.
A celebration of life service will be held at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Fort Atkinson on Thursday, April 9th, at 11:00 a.m. with a visitation from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
