Judith Zilisch Obituary

Judith Ann "Judy" Zilisch (Smith), age 79, of Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin, passed away on May 22, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of faith, love, and devoted family life.

Judy was born on January 12, 1947, in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, to Eugene C. Smith and Julia A. Smith (Kubic). She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard "Dick" Zilisch, and her brother, Richard A. Smith. She is lovingly remembered by her children, David Zilisch (Jill Smuck) of Fort Atkinson, Brian Zilisch (Dawn) of Fort Atkinson, and Julie Nufer (David) of Whitewater. Judy also leaves behind six cherished grandchildren, Hailey Hinze (Sean), Dakota Nufer (Marshal), Kayla Zilisch, Samantha Nufer, Amanda Zilisch, and Ashley Zilisch, as well as four great-grandchildren, Landon, Maliah and Emelia Hinze, and Averie Marinez. She is further survived by her sisters, Kathy Davies, Janet Bohannon, and Beverly McKone, along with many extended family members and dear friends.

Above all else, Judy loved her children and grandchildren deeply. Her family was the center of her heart, and she found great joy in their accomplishments, their visits, and the simple moments shared together. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and her love was expressed not only in words, but in the way she showed up for the people she held dear.

Judy grew up with a spirit that was both steady and adventurous, and those who knew her best would describe her as loving, friendly, and full of life. In her younger years, she enjoyed bowling, playing cards, and reading, and she especially treasured camping at Lake Mason Campground, where she made many lifelong friends and gathered memories that remained close to her heart throughout her life. She carried herself with warmth and kindness, and her presence brought comfort and joy to those around her.

She graduated from Armijo High School in Fairfield, California, and was very proud of the fact that her marching band was in the Rose Bowl Parade. She later worked as an upholsterer at Schweiger Furniture and in housekeeping at Golden Living Center. In each place she served, she was known for her dependable work ethic, her gracious spirit, and the dignity with which she approached her responsibilities. Judy understood the value of honest labor and the blessing of caring for others, and she lived those values quietly and consistently.

Judy was a Christian, and her faith was an important part of her life. She believed in the goodness of God, the comfort of prayer, and the hope of eternal life. In times of joy and in times of hardship, she leaned on her faith with quiet strength.

Though she has left this earthly life, Judy's memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who loved her. Her adventurous spirit, loving nature, and friendly smile will be remembered with gratitude and affection. She leaves behind a family who will forever cherish her example and a circle of friends who were blessed by her companionship. May she rest in the peace and presence of her Savior, reunited with those who went before her.

A celebration of Life is to be held this summer. "It's not Good-bye, it's See ya later"
