Leah Rose Getty, 81, Jefferson, formerly of Fort Atkinson, died on Friday, May 11, 2012, at the Fort Memorial Hospital.
She was born on March 1, 1931 in Keshena, the daughter of the late Gabriel and Evie (Westphal) Melotte.
Leah married Clayton F. Kirby of Busseyville on March 22, 1961 at Dubuque, Iowa. He died on May 29, 1979. She later married James L. Getty on May 8, 1992 in Fort Atkinson.
Leah was a graduate of the Fort Atkinson High School, class of 1952.
She was a member of St. Peters Episcopal Church in Fort Atkinson, Martha Chapter #66, Order of Easter Star, lifelong member of the Fort Health Care Partners, Hospital Auxiliary, and Fort Atkinson City Band member for 46 years.
Leah had also been a tutor for first and second graders at the Hoards School and Barrie School. While in Jefferson, she tutored at the East Elementary School.
Leah was a member of the former Fort Fest Blackhawk pageant.
She was Parade Marshall in 1980 at the Fort Fest Indian Heritage.
Leah was a member of the Menominee Indian Nation, and was named Kesgkosow at an Indian naming ceremony by the Women from Heaven at Keshena.
Survivors include her husband, Jim; son, Frank (Kim) Kirby of Fort Atkinson; daughters, Karen (James) Vernon of Jefferson, Sharon (friend, Albert) Kirby of Janesville; 8 grandchildren, Jerrod and Kayla Kirby, Sarah Mather, Emery (friend, Stacy) Poole, Donald (Kim) Vernon, James Vernon, Scott White Jr. and Clayton White; 8 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Also preceding in death were 5 brothers, 5 sisters, and a grand-daughter, Heather Mather.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 16, 2012, at 11 a.m., at St. Peters Episcopal Church with Father Andrew Hanyzewski officiating.
Visitation will be at the church from 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday until the time of service.
Family burial services will be held at a later date.
