Leonard (Lenny) Donehower passed away on Saturday, January 22, 2011. He was born on July 1, 1929 in Lacrosse, WI. He graduated from Fort Atkinson High School in 1947 and had served in The Army Air Corps/US Air Force from 1946-1953 earning a World War II Victory Medal. Leonard married Edythe Elaine Edmundson on March 28, 1959.
Leonard had worked at Jamesway in Fort Atkinson prior to his employment at Creamery Package/Crepaco in 1957. He retired from Crepaco in 1993 and had been an active member of the Aerospace and Machinists Union for 50 years. After retiring he worked as a school crossing guard at Purdy School until this past May.
An avid sports fan, Leonard was active in softball leagues having played for many teams including the AAC/USAF as well as being a well known softball umpire. With his ongoing love of sports, he primarily followed the Fort Atkinson Blackhawk girls Volleyball, Basketball and Softball Teams, earning him the nickname of top-row Lenny. He was also awarded the F blanket by the Athletic Department for his continued support of the teams.
His favorite pastimes were going to movies, watching sports and spending time with his beloved pets. Lenny also had a great love for music that he passed on to his children. He could often be found listening to a Polka, old-time Country, or singing harmonies to his beloved old-time hymns.
Survivors include: a son, John (Janet) of Dubuque, IA and daughter Ellen Donehower of Fort Atkinson, a brother/sister-in-law Arthur & Dot Buchholtz, Jr. of Fort Atkinson, sister-in-law Roberta Edmundson (Burlington, WI), many special nieces and nephews, special friends include: Arlan Larsen, Randy Martens, and Jalinn (J) Chapman. He was predeceased by his wife and step-son Kenneth Edmundson.
Friends may call from 4-7p.m. on Monday, January 31, 2011 at the Dunlap Memorial Home with a memorial service at 7 p.m. A committal services will be at Evergreen Cemetery at the Bellman Carillion Bell Tower at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, February 1. Memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Jefferson County.
