Lucille Smrekar Obituary

Lucille M. Smrekar, 97, formerly of 507 Monroe St. and currently a resident of Wellington Meadows in Fort Atkinson, passed away there on Sunday, Aug. 22, 2010.

Lucille was born in Fort Atkinson on March 1, 1913, daughter of the late Albert and Mary (Halfman) Siewert. She graduated from Fort Atkinson High School in 1932.

On Jan. 24, 1935, she was united in marriage to Michael C. Smrekar at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Fort Atkinson. She was preceded in death by her husband who died in 1983.

Lucille was employed for 12 years as a proofreader for W. D. Hoard and Sons in Fort Atkinson. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Council of Catholic Women, and the Christian Mothers and Altar Sodality of St. Joseph's. She also was a longtime member of the Fort Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.

Lucille was an avid reader who enjoyed reading mysteries and several daily newspapers. She also enjoyed long walks and spending time with her family, friends and neighbors.

Lucille is survived by a son, Thomas Smrekar of Fort Atkinson; a grandson, Michael (Debra) Smrekar of Janesville; a granddaughter, Diane (Michael) Mueller of Madison; and a great-grandson, Brandon Mueller.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, William Siewert; and a daughter-in-law, Barbara Smrekar.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 26, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Fort Atkinson with Father Jay Poster officiating. Friends may call from 10 a.m. on Thursday at the church until the time of service. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.

Memorials may be made in Lucille's name to St. Joseph Catholic Church.

The Dunlap Memorial Home is assisting the family.

Lucille's family would like to sincerely thank the staff at Wellington Meadows and Rainbow Hospice Care for all the love and support they have given Lucille while she was a resident there.
