Luke Robert Rusch, 23, a lifelong resident of Fort Atkinson, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, June 6, 2026.
Luke was born on August 23, 2002, in Fort Atkinson. He attended school in Fort Atkinson and graduated from Fort McCoy Challenge Academy in 2019.
Luke was working for Genesee Lake School in Oconomowoc, where he was valued for his strong work ethic and dependable presence. He approached his responsibilities with honesty and dedication, and he earned the respect of others through the consistency of his character.
Those who knew Luke will remember that he was a private person who often enjoyed time alone, yet he also appreciated being around others of all ages. He had a way of connecting with people that was natural and sincere, and his great sense of humor brought lightness to many moments.
Luke loved animals and found joy in their companionship, especially with his dog Kali. He also enjoyed playing video games, spending time grilling and being with his family and friends. He was a loyal friend, and his honesty, though sometimes direct, was always rooted in a genuine and trustworthy heart.
It was a joy to watch Luke grow from a boy into a young man. That journey was witnessed with pride and gratitude by those who knew him best. He carried himself with a steady spirit and a thoughtful nature, and he touched lives in ways that will not be forgotten.
Luke is survived by his mother, Dana (Craig) Guttenberg; father, Thomas Rusch; brother, Cade Rusch; step siblings, Michaela, Eric and Madalyn Guttenberg; grandparents, Barb and Bob Werner, Bob and Janice Rusch and Jim and Lois Clark. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and co-workers and his dog, Kali.
A celebration of life will be held on Monday, June 15, 2026, at the American Legion in Fort Atkinson with a visitation beginning at 11 AM with a service at noon. Following the service a meal will be provided.
