Marian H. Hansen, 78, of Whitewater, formerly of Fort Atkinson and Minocqua, passed away Saturday, August 20, 2011 at Fort Memorial Hospital.
Marian was born on April 6, 1933, daughter of Edward and Klara (Svensdotter) Anderson in Berwyn, Il.
She graduated from Morton High School in Cicero, IL. After graduation she continued her education at Briggs-Straton College in Chicago. She married Edwin Hansen on January 30, 1954. After marriage she and Edwin lived in Alexandria, VA. and Anchorage, AK while Edwin served in the Army. After service they moved to Champaign-Urbana, IL for a short time and settled in the Whitewater-Fort Atkinson area where they enjoyed many years raising four children. She was a member of the First English Lutheran Church in Whitewater and Trinity Lutheran Church in Fort Atkinson. She was employed at Fairhaven Nursing Home in Whitewater as a CNA. Marian had a huge heart and enjoyed caring for many residents.
She and Edwin moved to Minocqua in 1988 where they owned and operated Mercer Lake Resort. She enjoyed the company and friendship of many guests for over 20 years. She loved the beauty of the northwoods, a favorite pastime was watching the wildlife surrounding her. She was a member of Sons of Norway while extremely proud of her full Swedish heritage. She was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church for many years.
Marian's love and devotion to her family and friends will be remembered and cherished forever. She lived her life with an unselfish focus on family, friends and her beloved dogs. She was a wonderful gift and will be greatly missed.
Marian is survived by her husband Edwin; children Kristine (David) Rohde of Cambridge, Carl Hansen of Munising, MI, Neil Hansen of Minocqua and Karen (Michael) Schultz of Winneconne; grandchildren Justin and Andrea Rohde, Brian Hansen, Heather (Michael) Lemke and Hannah and Hayden Schultz, other nieces and nephews. She also was anxiously awaiting the fall arrival of her great-granddaughter Hailey Lemke. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Edward and George Anderson and sisters June Nelson and Ruth Mestek.
Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Wednesday August 24, 2011 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fort Atkinson. Visitation from 10AM Wednesday at the church until time of service. Burial will take place on Thursday, August 25 at Mt. Auburn Cemetery in Stickney, IL.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Jefferson County.
