After a two year fight with lung cancer, Maryellen Daisy Peterson Krueger passed quietly away at her home in Fort Atkinson on March 9, 2013.
Maryellen Peterson was born in Clearwater, Florida, on September 21, 1941, to Emery James Peterson and Isma Eva Lucinda Krueger originally from the Clintonville, WI area. After working in Florida a few years, they returned to Clintonville, WI where they had extended family.
After her mothers marriage to Thomas P. Dunn, she moved to Oshkosh with the parents and the Dunn siblings. There Maryellen went to Dale Elementary School, Webster Stanley Jr. High and Oshkosh High School where she graduated in 1960 in the last class from the old high school.
Maryellen began an apprenticeship in her mothers beauty shop the summer before her senior year in high school. When she became licensed she opened a 7-operator beauty salon in Oshkosh. She married and had three children, Mary Bernice in 1964, Terry Ann in 1965 and Kelly Lynn in 1970.
Maryellen began teaching cosmetology courses at the Wisconsin Technical Institute and wrote the manual for the merging of the barber and cosmetology programs for the State of Wisconsin. She remained in this career for 29 years.
Maryellen married Ronald Elmer Clarence Krueger in a western-themed ceremony at St. Marks Church in Jefferson on June 12, 1981. They held the reception at the Fairgrounds in conjunction with the Boondockers Street Rod Car Show of which they were both members. Their blended family included Ronalds two sons Greg Krueger and Terry Krueger. The family remained in Jefferson County. In 2011 they adopted Shauna Gaines into their family and in 2013 they also adopted Haley (Gary) Wulf into their family.
Maryellen continued her cosmetology career (which she enjoyed) and Ronald worked for Wisconsin Natural Gas. After Ron retired in the 90s they decided to travel throughout the United States and Mexico. They loved traveling so they purchased a motor home and traveled for 18 years with a time-out when they lived in Florida for eight years where they ran a bridal shop in Palm Bay, FL called Kissing Cousins Bridal. As Maryellen stated Weve done more in our retirement than most people have in their lifetimes.
It was at this time that Maryellen experienced what she referred to as One of the best moments of my life. She and Ron were invited to a fish fry at a small church around the corner from the bridal shop in Florida. There after 20 years of searching, she found the Holy Ghost and became a devout member of the Pentecostal faith.
After Maryellens diagnosis, they decided to settle down in a location close to family. They sold the motor home and moved to Fort Atkinson. She was most proud of her relationships with family members.
