Michael Corridon Obituary

Michael P. Corridon, 75, of Jefferson, WI, died May 14, 2012 at LifeCare Hospital in Pewaukee, WI.

He was born May 26, 1936 in Washington DC to Herbert and Dorothy (Lanahan) Corridon. His family spent his early years in Washington DC and then moved to Silver Spring, MD.

After graduating from high school, Michael joined the U. S. Air Force and served for six years before returning to civilian life. He spent years doing many different jobs such as working with the civil rights movement in Milwaukee, driving a school bus for the handicapped, and as a police dispatcher, to name a few. He also spent several years in the Redemptorist Minor Seminary. Finally deciding what he wanted to be when he grew up, Michael graduated with his Bachelors degree in Education from UW Whitewater in 1973; he would later earn two Master Degrees in Education and History.

In May, 1973 Michael and Mary V. Hillebrand were married. Amidst the Watergate hearings in August, 1974 Michael and Mary had their first daughter, Amy. In late 1976 the young family moved to Lyons, WI and in February, 1977 the family welcomed their second daughter, Naomi.

Michael taught for 17 years in Genoa City, WI, at Brookwood Elementary School. He taught junior high classes for most of his career and he worked hard to develop a Gifted and Talented program at the school. In 1984 Michael was honored by the Lake Geneva Jaycees as the Outstanding Educator of the year. Michael was also the union president at his school, striving hard for equal pay and rights for his fellow teachers. Due to health issues Michael retired from teaching in 1991 and started a small tutoring business.

Michael's hobbies included travel, stamp collecting, maintaining the family trees and singing. He sang in many choirs and for many years with the Masterpiece Chorale based in Elkhorn, and the Parkside Community choir based at UW Parkside in Kenosha, WI. He also cantored for several years at St Charles Catholic Church in Burlington.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Dorothy, his brother, Thomas, and sister Loretta.

Michael is survived by his wife, Mary (Hillebrand) and daughters, Amy (Ben Lofgren) and Naomi (Dianne Duggan); by his brothers, George (Diana) of Huntington, MD and Paul of Charlottesville, VA; nephews, Ian of Huntington, MD, Bert of Denmark and Mathew of Frederick, MD; nieces, Cindy (Gilmore) of Springfield, MD, Deanna (Kekesi) of Washington DC and Heather of Frederick, MD and several great nieces, and nephews and other dear friends.

A Funeral Mass will be held at noon on Friday, May 18, 2012 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Jefferson. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 17 at the Dunlap Memorial Home in Fort Atkinson and from 11 a.m. on Friday at the church until time of service.
