Ruth W. Knueppel, 98, of Fort Atkinson, died on Friday, Aug. 27, 2010, at Fairhaven Retirement Community in Whitewater.
She was born on April 14, 1912, in Portland, Ore., the daughter of the late Frank and Carrie (Dickenson) Sweet.
Ruth married William R. Knueppel of Fort Atkinson on Jan. 24, 1942, in Fort Atkinson. He died on Aug. 27, 1968.
She was a graduate of Fort Atkinson High School, class of 1931, and from Ripon College in 1936.
Ruth was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ since 1928, the Martha Chapter O.E.S., past president and life member of the Fort Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, life member of the Fort Atkinson Historical Society, friend of the Dwight Foster Public Library, the Humane Society of Jefferson County and a life member of the Fairhaven Auxiliary in Whitewater.
Survivors include special friends, Judy Torgerson of Fort Atkinson and Mike (Monica) Ponyicsanyi of Lake Mills.
Also preceding her in death were brothers, Wallace and Arthur Sweet.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, Sept. 2, at noon at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Fort Atkinson with the Rev. Dr. Chris Buckingham-Taylor officiating.
Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the church or to the Humane Society of Jefferson County.
