Sylvia Steinke Obituary

Sylvia P. Steinke, 89, of Fort Atkinson, died Thursday, March 21, 2013 at her home.

Sylvia was born on July 1, 1923 in Milwaukee, daughter of the late Samuel and Selma (Brunner) Gehrig. She married Loren Steinke on March 7, 1942. He died on May 10, 1991.

Sylvia enjoyed her family gatherings, friends, camping, water aerobics, playing cards, cooking, dancing, listening to polka music and going to Ho-Chunk. She was a long time member of Friedens United Church of Christ and was part of its Womens Guild and served in other capacities at the church over the years. She was also a member and enjoyed the company of the local Red Hat Society. She was the head supervisor of the hot lunch program for the Fort Atkinson Public Schools and retired after 23 years.

She was a loving wife and mom, a proud grandma and great grandmother.

Sylvia is survived by her children, Judy (Leo) Wiedenfeld of Crystal Lake, IL, Ron (Patti) Steinke of Fort Atkinson, Jerry (Charla Frank) Steinke of Fort Atkinson and Nancy (Al) Istvanek of Milton; grandchildren, Wendy (Dave) Nosal, Jill (Ed) Guidone, Paul (Christine) Wiedenfeld, Elisabeth (Mike) Bergmann, Andrew (Amelia) Gerke, Adam Steinke, Natalie (George) Kraus and Tyson Steinke and 29 great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her two brothers and her sister.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at the Dunlap Memorial Home. Friends may call from 10 a.m. on Tuesday at the memorial home until time of service. Burial will follow in Lakeview Cemetery.
