Warren G. Stannard

Warren G. Stannard, age 96, passed away peacefully Thursday April 3,2025 at St. Mary’s hospital in Madison WI. He was born on November 13,1928 in Fort Atkinson, WI to Ormal and Lana (Denk) Stannard. 

He was a proud resident of Fort Atkinson graduating from Fort High School in 1947. He married Edith Wing on October 9,1948 in Farmington WI. They lived in Fort until the end of March 2024 when they moved to Noel Manor in Verona WI. Warren and Edith celebrated their 76th wedding anniversary last October at their new residence.

Warren was a Golden Glove boxer in his youth, winning many bouts. He learned the masonry trade in Whitewater and later went into partnership with his brother-in-law Duane Johnson. Together they built many beautiful fireplaces and homes in Fort and the surrounding communities. He built his own home in 1953 and a couple of additions over the years. He also built a playhouse for his daughters that resembled the main residence. It eventually became the bathhouse for the pool he constructed in the backyard in 1966. He also built a cottage on Buffalo Lake in Montello and served as president of the lake association.

Warren and Edith traveled a lot over the years with their favorite places being Hawaii, South Pacific and Caribbean locations, which was evidenced by the décor of their home. They were known for hosting many luau, birthday, anniversary and wedding parties.

Warren is survived by his wife, Edith; his children, Brian (Terry) Stannard, Diane (Mark) Streich, Judy (Rick) Halverson; grandchildren, Nicole Stannard, Allison (Wells) Littlefield, Sarah (Jordan) Johnson, Ryan (Macy) Halverson and great-grandchildren Oliver Johnson and Graham Johnson.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 24, 2025 at the Dunlap Memorial Home, 604 S. Main Street, Fort Atkinson, WI 53538. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery. Following services, a luncheon will be held at the American Legion Post 166, 201 S. Water Street E. in Fort Atkinson.
