William Stewart Obituary

William J. (Bill) Stewart, 82, of Fort Atkinson, passed away at home on Thursday, May 19, after a brief battle with cancer.
Bill was born in Boston, Massachusetts on October 15, 1928, the son of McLeod and Josephine (Hurley) Stewart.
He served in the United States Air Force, 1948-1952, during the Korean War.
On August 16, 1952, he was united in marriage to Martha Prothro in Mansfield, LA.
He graduated from Letourneau College, Longview, TX, in 1955.
Bill was employed as a Lithographer at the Daily Jefferson County Union from 1959 to 1978. He then worked in maintenance at UW-Whitewater from 1978 until his retirement in 1990.
He was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ, Fort Atkinson, where he served on the Board of Deacons.
He was a longtime member of the Fort Atkinson Kiwanis Club.
Bill enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Bill is survived by his wife of 58 years, Martha; daughters, Lynell (Perry) Swenson, Hayward; Linda (Frank) Fox, LaFayette, CO.; Laurie (Jim) Ballentine, McFarland; son, Larry (Lisa) Stewart of Eureka, Montana; brother, McLeod (Bess) Stewart, Fort Atkinson; sisters-in-law, Brenda (Tommy) Mason and Betty Jean Peterson, Mansfield, LA; brothers-in-law Hershey Prothro, Mansfield, LA; Merle Blake, Valrico, FL and James (Lou) Prothro, Lubbock, TX. Survivors also include grandchildren Keeley (Caleb) Nelson, Kerri Coddington, Kasey Swenson, Frank (Donna) Fox Jr., Amanda Fox, Jonathan Fox, Luke Ballentine, Holt Stewart and Saviah Stewart. He is further survived by seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother, sister and sister in law.
A memorial service will be held at First Congregational United Church of Christ, Fort Atkinson, on Thursday, May 26, at 6 p.m. . Friends may call at the church from 4-6 p.m. prior to the service
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Bills name to Rainbow Hospice Care.
