Diane Niemeyer Obituary

Diane L. Niemeyer, 71, of Fort Atkinson, passed away Thursday, Jan. 31, 2019, at the Rainbow Hospice Care Inpatient Center in Johnson Creek.

Diane was born on June 26, 1947, in Milwaukee to Gerhardt and Louise (Kirk) Weinkauf.

A graduate of Menomonie High School, she earned her bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and spent a year teaching in the Whitewater Unified School District.

Diane worked at the Daily Jefferson County Union in Fort Atkinson for 32 years, retiring as the newspaper’s marketing director in 2013.

She enjoyed her retirement to the fullest, regularly visiting Rainbow Hospice Care patients in their homes and delivering Meals on Wheels. A member of First Congregational United Church of Christ, she served on numerous committees and volunteered for many activities throughout the years, most recently the turkey-and-biscuit luncheon, food pantry and as a regular on the “peanuts crew.”

In addition, Diane enjoyed traveling, yoga, reading, playing word games, and watching Badger football and basketball and the Packers. She loved spending time with her friends, whether going to an afternoon movie, out for Friday night fish or a weekend up north at their lake cabins.

Diane generously shared her heart with everyone around her. No matter how her day was going, she would greet people with a bright, genuine smile and show true concern about how they were doing. She had an infectious laugh, a keen sense of humor, an empathetic heart and a gentle, loving manner. She was a true friend to those who loved her and whom she loved.

Above all else, Diane loved her family and would do anything for them. She had a very close relationship with her children and a special bond with each of her six grandchildren. They were everything to her.

Diane is survived by her daughter, Tracy (Adam Prebil) Niemeyer of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; son, Ryan (Kari) Niemeyer of Oregon, Wis; grandchildren, Maya, Tristan, Josiah and Tessa Prebil and Brynn and Nora Niemeyer; and brother, Gary (Sandy) Weinkauf of Eau Claire.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, John Weinkauf.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 7, at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Fort Atkinson with the Rev. Chris Buckingham-Taylor officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Rainbow Hospice Care.
